{"id":671,"date":"2018-04-30T15:42:39","date_gmt":"2018-04-30T15:42:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.quriusolutions.com\/?p=671"},"modified":"2018-04-30T15:42:39","modified_gmt":"2018-04-30T15:42:39","slug":"nwobike-san-sent-to-jail-for-perverting-course-of-justice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.quriusolutions.com\/?p=671","title":{"rendered":"Nwobike, SAN, sent to jail for perverting course of justice"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Justice Raliat Adebiyi of a Lagos High Court sitting at Ikeja on Monday convicted a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Joseph Nwobike, for perversion of justice.<\/p>\n<p>The judge gave the verdict while delivering judgment in the criminal charge filed against the lawyer by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).<\/p>\n<p>Nwobike was convicted in nine out of the 13-count charge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe level of culpability was high but the level of consequence was limited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The judge said the sentence would serve as a deterrent to lawyers and other stakeholders in the justice sector to desist from such acts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe defendant, Dr Joseph Nwobike, is hereby sentenced to a period of 1 month of 30 days imprisonment for each of the 12 counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sentence is to run concurrently,\u201d Adebiyi said <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Justice Raliat Adebiyi of a Lagos High Court sitting at Ikeja on Monday convicted a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Joseph Nwobike, for perversion of justice.
